Last night I attended the 5th Anniversary Party for the Bad Dog Theatre. It was an enjoyable evening, spent with some of Toronto's finest improvisers.
And there was cake!
Anyway...in addition to reconnecting with quite a few old friends, I also found something incredible on the mens' room floor. It is, without a doubt, the coolest, least disgusting thing I've ever found on a men's room floor.
A demo tape!
Somebody's poor, abandoned demo tape. Frank Perry's demo tape, in fact...forsaken and unceremoniously dropped on the cold tile of the Black Swan's men's room floor.
I picked it up, washed my hands a couple more times (mens' room floor...ew), and put it in my pocket.
Frank Perry's pretty lucky that his demo tape was recovered by somebody as apathetic about electronics as me. I haven't bought a new stereo since, like, 1994, so I've got a tape deck.
This morning I popped the tape in and gave it a listen.
Not bad, Frank Perry. I especially enjoyed your cover of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by the Stones...although, personally, I would have used less echo in the vocals.
If I was in charge of booking talent at the Black Swan, I would definitely consider your earnest acoustic-driven crooning.
That being said, you should probably consider making demo cds from now on. Nobody really listens to tapes anymore, and they're much less likely to break if they're stepped on in the men's room.
