Random Triva Factoid

I'm tired from walking all over Berlin today. I'm also still a bit hung-over from drinking all over Berlin, last night.

So...instead of composing one my usual literary works of genius, I'm just going to hit you all with another RTF. This one involves the best band in history.

A CT scan (or CAT scan) is a pretty standard procedure in hospitals. Basically it's used to take 3D pictures of the inside of people's bodies. It's a vital tool that helps doctors treat cancer, internal injuries, and a myriad of other ailments. In short, the CAT scan has virtually saved millions of lives.

The CAT scan was invented by a guy named Godfrey Hounsfield, who worked for a company called EMI (Electrical and Musical Industries). They're strictly a recording company now, but in the 1950's they had an industrial research arm. All in all, the company wasn't turning in much of a profit.

...until they signed a band called The Beatles in 1962.

The Beatles unparalleled success gave EMI the funding to allow Hounsfield to continue his research, which lead to the CAT scan. It hit hospitals in 1972. Hounsfield later won a Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution to medicine.

Yet one more reason to love the Beatles.

Jim out.
