Award

Tonight is the Oscars.

I doubt I'll be watching too much of it, since I haven't really seen any of the movies that were nominated, anyway. And, more importantly, I don't really give a shit.

Forgive me if, during these difficult financial times, I fail to take any pleasure in celebrating the efforts of people who make way more money than me.

But, since it is a day of awards, I decided I was going to give away one myself. A DB OF THE DAY award, in fact.

So please join me in congratulating the latest Jimmy Kayak Douchebag of the Day.

Kenny Glenn!

The link says it all, but for those of you who don't feel like clicking, Kenny Glenn is the pleasant little fucknut who filmed himself on Youtube, abusing a cat. Apparently he thought wearing a ski-mask would hide his identity.

It didn't. A large number of intrepid users tracked down his identification, and the local sheriff was notified. Little Kenny Glenn now faces charges, and is the latest internet pariah to be placed in the virtual pillory stocks for relentless taunts and typed insults.

I'd feel sorry for the guy...but he didn't show a lot of pity on that cat he was beating on. So I'll just go ahead and add to the pile-on.

Kenny, for your socio-pathetic enjoyment of cruelty to animals, your foolish and intellectually stunted attempt at humour, and for the sheer idiocy of posting a video of yourself committing a criminal and repulsive act (using YOUR OWN ACCOUNT! Holy shit...you're a fucking idiot), I hereby award you the Jimmy Kayak Douchebag of the Day Award.

Enjoy your new-found fame, douchebag.

Jim out.

Put that little fucker in the prison showers and let the other inmates treat him like poor Dusty. That whole thing just sickened me. I'm no advocate for corporal or capital punishment but it's hard to set aside the visceral feelings of disgust and rage that erupt from seeing a human being behave like a total fucking piece of shit. "Douchebag of the Day" is being too kind to Kenny. What a fucking sadist tard.

Now that I've vented (thanks for letting me piss my rage all over your comment section) I just wanted to note that these forms of social media we're seeing - in venues like Facebook, Myspace, YouTube, Twitter et al - work on another level of community that seemed to have been passing from existence for a while.

The idea of tribes or small villages - McLuhan's "global village", if you will - are coming to the fore. It used to be one could dissolve into the anonymity of a city or cyberspace and be rendered distant from the social constraints of peers and community. But now the world is collapsing again into small and vibrant bundles of people who are able to exercise their scorn and praise in ways they couldn't before.

It's not quite vigilante justice or running folks out of town on a rail, nor simple but effective shunning of those who cross the mutually agreed boundaries of what is deemed right and wrong. But it is voice and action of a community bringing the force of their will to bear upon any who would transgress it.

Interesting, shit, ain't it?

Loads of possibilities for it to go right or wrong or who knows where.

One thing we can be certain of on this day - Kenny is a fucking douche.

Cheers.
